The Rotax 912

BRP-Rotax four-stroke and advanced two-stroke engines are used in a wide variety of small land, sea and airborne vehicles.

The 912 series was BRP-Rotax‘s first engine dedicated for aircraft application only and the series is well regarded for its reliability and efficiency. It is targeted primarily as the entry-level engine in the light aviation industry. The reliability of these engines in service is well-proven and they come with a time between overhauls of 2,000 hours

Two versions of this light-aviation workhorse are available with the DeltaJet 500; the 80 hp Rotax 912 UL and the100 hp Rotax 912 ULS.

They share a 4-cylinder, 4-stroke liquid/air-cooled opposed-cylinder layout featuring dry sump forced lubrication with a separate oil tank, automatically adjusted hydraulic valve tappets, dual electronic ignition, twin carburetors, a mechanical fuel pump, and an integrated gearbox to reduce propeller rotation speed.

BMW R1200 Injected

The legendary BMW boxer engine has been a cornerstone of the German manufacturers' engine line-up since 1923. Although the basic two-cylinder layout has stayed constant, it has been continuously refined by BMW's engineers. Perhaps the biggest change was the move from air-cooling and two-valve cylinder heads to a combined air-oil cooling system alongside the introduction of four-valve heads. These performance enhancements allowed the power output to be boosted significantly and the R1200 engine has been lavished with technology upgrades ever since.

The 1170cc BMW engine in the DeltaJet 500 boasts a counterbalance shaft and Bosch Motronic fuel injection for extra refinement and fuel efficiency. The air-oil cooling means the engine gets up to operating temperature more quickly, which helps to reduce wear and tear on engine internal components and gives the engine a longer lifespan. It also eliminates the need for heavy water cooling with its attendant extra radiator.

The boxer motor also features double overhead cams (DOHC), a major factor in the engine's high torque output and peak power of 115 hp.
